The review that you all have been asking me about for months is HERE! I am finally putting Tatcha Poslished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder to the test. Is it really the best exfoliant for oily skin? Is it really worth your money? Okay, let’s find out!
What is rice powder?
If you are a beauty guru, you probably know that rice powder has been used for centuries in most asian countries and is becoming more and more popular today. There are so many different types of exfoliating products out there but there is only a few options for sensitive and acne prone skin. What got my attention the most is the fact that this product can exfoliate your skin using rice enzyme powder which is super gentle for the skin.
When I visited Japan in 2010, I was impressed. Almost every single Japanese woman I saw on the street had smooth porcelain flawless skin. During my visit, a friend of mine who is from Kobe took me to her Mom’s spa for a facial treatment and I was amazed at how advance their skincare system was at the time. Her mom, who is the owner of the spa and a specialist in skincare, explained to me about the Japanese’s skincare routine and how important it was for women there to have radiant and glowing skin at any given age. One of the secrets was rice powder or rice flour.
She told me that many years ago, people discovered that the old workers who worked in a Sake brewery had wrinkles on their face but baby smooth hands. The Geishas have taken on this discovery and used rice/rice powder as an important part of their beauty routine. Washing your face with rice water is also a very common practise used by women all over Asia, including my mom. Rice powder and rice water are both rich in vitamin B and amino acids which help exfoliate and boost collagen production.
This is me (trying to look like a Japanese :P) standing next to the real Japanese girls with their flawless skin!
So, what is Tatcha?
Apparently, Tatcha has been around for much longer than I thought. They offer a wide range of skincare products that are inspired by the Japanese geishas’ skincare routine and what they do to maintain youthful and flawless skin.
I recently heard of Tatcha a couple months ago on my social media and decided to check them out on Sephora. To be honest, I wasn’t sure at first if I would want to spend that much money on a relatively new skincare brand that I have never heard before. However, I was more fascinated with the idea that these products are based on the Japanese Geishas’ beauty secrets. I did a little bit more research on the products line that they have and decided to try out the most popular product that they have, the Polished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder for Oily Skin (from Sephora).
Tatcha Poslished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder is available in two different size; 0.35 oz ($19) and 2.1oz ($78). I got the 2.1oz but if you want to just test it out, you can try the 0.35oz first.
I love the packaging because it was made with this special cap. Without it, it would be a messy process to use the powder.
How do you use it?
You are supposed to pour about a teaspoon of the powder on your palm, add a bit of water, activate it with your hands until it turns into foam and apply it on your face and massage your face in circular motion for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
My first time using this to exfoliate my skin was gross! I don’t mean the product was gross but I could literally see dead skin falling down from my face. Yes, that was gross! I never knew I had that much dead skin built up on my face. Thank God it only happened once! My second time using it was much better and I see less and less dead skin residue in my sink. My skin feels more and more amazing after each time using this product.
What impresses me the most is this product exfoliates your skin wonderfully with just the enzyme. People say that you can use it with make up on and it would also remove your make up but I wouldn’t recommend it. Even if you are a lazy person like me, never ever leave your makeup on and try to do a one step cleansing and expect your skin to be clean and healthy. My favourite make up remover of all time: Motives Makeup Remover Wipes.
Overall, I have to say that this is one of the very few expensive products that really impresses me. I haven’t tried out anything else in this line yet but if you have, let me know your recommendations!
